IMPHAL, Jan 6: Security forces destroyed 12.9 hectares of illicit poppy cultivation in Manipur’s Senapati district on Tuesday, an official statement informed.
“The drive was conducted by a combined team of Senapati Forest Division, Police, CRPF, NCB personnel & village volunteers from Khabung carried out operation to destroy illegal poppy crops cultivated at Upper and Lower Khabung Hill Ranges” it said.
“Approximately 12.9 Hectare of illicit poppy filed was destroyed and one makeshift hut was burned and destroyed during the operation” it said adding “efforts are ongoing to identify and capture individuals who are involved in this illegal operation.”

The operation was carried out to curb narcotic drug production and trafficking in the region.
The teams involved in the drive also urged all citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in eradicating this menace and requested to all the citizens of the district to stay vigilant, report any information regarding illegal poppy cultivation to the nearest police station.
