155 Weapons, 1,652 Ammunitions Seized in Massive Security Crackdown Across Five Manipur Districts

Imphal, July 28: In one of the largest coordinated security operations in recent weeks, joint forces have recovered 155 weapons, 1,652 rounds of ammunition, and a large cache of explosives and war-like materials from multiple hill districts in Manipur. The operations, carried out across Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl, Tengnoupal, and Chandel, reflect renewed efforts to stabilize the violence-affected region.

Based on specific intelligence inputs, combined teams of the Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Assam Rifles, and the Indian Army launched targeted search operations over the past several days. The raids led to the seizure of a wide range of weaponry, including eight AK-series rifles, two INSAS rifles, four carbines, one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), eight 9mm pistols, fourteen 12-bore guns, twenty-one single-bore guns, and fourteen country-made pistols.

In addition to the firearms, security personnel recovered 31 locally fabricated mortars (pompi), 39 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), 13 hand grenades, 1,600 assorted rounds of ammunition, along with 15 communication sets and four binoculars.

A senior police official described the recovery as a “significant breakthrough”, underlining the importance of intelligence-driven efforts in dismantling armed networks and restoring law and order in the insurgency-affected regions. “These operations are part of our larger commitment to restore peace, protect civilians, and reclaim public spaces from armed groups,” the official stated.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities. Security forces reiterated their dedication to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all citizens in Manipur.
