19 Individuals Detained by Manipur Police on Street Violence; 1 Held for Firing at Security Personnel

IMPHAL, June 11: Manipur Police have detained a total of 20 individuals in separate incidents across the state. These include arrests related to street violence in Imphal East District and a confrontation with protestors in Imphal West.

On June 9, 2025, police in Imphal East detained 19 individuals who were involved in unlawful activities such as blocking roads, harassing commuters, and creating public disturbances. Most of them were found to be under the influence of alcohol. These actions severely disrupted public order and caused significant inconvenience to law-abiding citizens.

Manipur Police have strongly urged the public, particularly the youth, to refrain from engaging in such anti-social behavior, warning that such acts can have serious legal implications that could adversely affect future career opportunities. The police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the public and appreciated the support of citizens in maintaining peace.

On the same day, a separate incident occurred in Tera Sapam, Imphal West District, where security forces were attacked by protestors associated with the Arambai Tenggol group. The confrontation happened while the forces were attempting to clear road blockades. During the altercation, one protestor opened fire at the security personnel and managed to flee the scene.

The individual, identified as Raj alias Boinao Pangeijam, aged 39, a known cadre of Arambai Tenggol, was arrested by Manipur Police. The weapon used in the attack, a pistol, was recovered from him. Raj has been produced before a magistrate and has been remanded to police custody for eight days for further investigation.
