Imphal, August 12 — In a major coordinated security operation, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police have arrested 22 active cadres belonging to multiple hill and valley-based insurgent groups over the past week.
The intelligence-led raids, conducted across Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Chandel, Thoubal, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts, resulted in the seizure of six firearms, grenades, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), a .303 rifle, and large quantities of ammunition.
Those arrested are linked to banned outfits including KCP (various factions), PREPAK (PRO), KYKL, and UNLF. Officials said the insurgents were involved in extortion, arms smuggling, kidnapping, and intimidation activities.
Key recoveries included pistols with live rounds, explosives, a mortar shell neutralised near L Thinkangphai village in Chandel, and ammunition stockpiles from suspected UNLF members.
Security forces described the crackdown as part of their “firm resolve to ensure peace, stability, and public safety in Manipur,” adding that such operations would continue to dismantle militant networks in the state.
