IMPHAL, Feb 6: The much-anticipated second edition of the Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF) commenced today, at the City Convention Centre in Palace Compound, Imphal. Organized by the Manipur State Film Development Society (MFSDS) and the Manipur State Film & Television Institute (MSFTI), the festival serves as a vibrant celebration of cinema’s transformative power and its profound impact on culture and society.
In his keynote address, Festival Director Sunzu Bachaspatimayum highlighted the significance of EIIFF in shaping the future of filmmaking in the Northeast. He emphasized that the festival aims to foster a dynamic cinematic landscape in the region and nurture new voices while reinforcing the storytelling traditions of Manipur.
The festival was graced by Information and Public Relations Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, who served as the Chief Guest. In his speech, Dr. Ranjan underscored the transformative power of films in shaping society and highlighted the festival’s role in bridging linguistic divides. He also honored the legendary filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma for his monumental contributions to Manipuri cinema.
The opening ceremony included the unveiling of “The Eikhoigi Daily,” a special festival bulletin capturing the essence of each day’s events. Dignitaries including Chief Secretary P.K. Singh and Aribam Syam Sharma joined the celebrations, marking the beginning of what promises to be a captivating four-day event.
EIIFF 2025 features a carefully curated selection of short films, documentaries, and fiction features, alongside industry interactions designed to foster cinematic talent. Masterclasses, Cine Talks, and Panel Discussions have already begun, sparking meaningful dialogues among filmmakers and audiences alike. The festival is set to continue until February 9.
