IMPHAL, Jan 25: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced the disposal of 314.471 kg of seized drugs at a bio-medical waste treatment facility in Imphal West district on Saturday. This move is part of the state’s ongoing war on drugs, which has been a priority since 2018 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government’s anti-drug campaign is not merely a campaign but a mission aimed at protecting future generations, ensuring societal integrity, and securing a better future for the people of Manipur. He urged citizens to unite in this effort, stressing the importance of collective resolve in creating a drug-free state.

Since the launch of the initiative, the state government has successfully destroyed vast areas of poppy cultivation, seized drugs worth approximately Rs 70,000 crore, and arrested between 2,000 and 3,000 individuals. Nearly 200 people have been convicted in connection with drug-related offenses. Public destruction of seized drugs is carried out annually to ensure transparency in the process, Singh explained.

On this occasion, the destroyed drugs included 9.884 kg of heroin, 244.409 kg of brown sugar, 26.239 kg of WY (Yaba) tablets, 661 grams of SP tablets, 493 grams of N 10 tablets, 505 grams of pseudoephedrine tablets, and 32.280 kg of ganja. Singh reaffirmed the state’s commitment to dismantling the entire drug network by continuing to destroy poppy plantations and actively targeting drug smugglers across the state, especially along highways and in border areas.
The Chief Minister also urged officials and local communities to maintain sincerity, transparency, and zero tolerance in dealing with drug-related issues. He called for ongoing cooperation from local clubs, Meira Paibis, and social workers to ensure the success of the state’s continuous drive against drugs.
