IMPHAL, Dec 16: Atleast 389 internally displaced persons who had been staying at different relief camps on Monday returned to their native homes in Bishnupur district, officials said on Tuesday.
389 displaced persons returned to 97 homes at Phougakchao Ikhai Mamang Leikai, Haotak Tampak, Khoijumantabi and others in Bishnupur district on Monday, officials said.
“IDPs from areas near Bishnupur ans Churachandpur district boundary returned to their homes on Monday. They had fled their homes when ethnic violence broke out on May 3, 2023. After months of displacement, they are finally stepping back into their homes” an official said.
Meitei locality of Phougakchao Ikhai was one of the first areas to be affected by ethnic violence on May 3, 2023.
Earlier this month, the state government resettled atleast 257 displaced persons from 64 households at Leimaram Waroiching in Bishnupur district.
