IMPHAL, Dec 2: Security forces destroyed 54 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in Kangpokpi district, a police statement said on Tuesday.
The drive was conducted on Monday, police said.
Eighteen acres of poppy cultivation located between Khoiripok and Sehjang villages in Kangpokpi district, police said.
Five huts, one bag of fertilizer, chemicals/herbicides used in cultivation which were found at the plantation sites were also destroyed, police said.
In another drive, a joint team of security forces and forest Department destroyed 36 acres of poppy cultivation in the hill ranges of C. Lamjang and surrounding areas in Kangpokpi district.
11 huts, 14 bags of fertilizers and nine bags of salt found at the plantation sites were also destroyed, police said.
Recently, Narcotics Control Bureau had informed that with the combined efforts of the agency, CRPF, Manipur Police and state forest department, 144 acres of illicit poppy cultivation were destroyed over the last week in Kangpokpi district.
In a statement, NCB had said “NCB continues to work closely with central and state agencies to crack down on illicit poppy cultivation.”
