Imphal, July 24: In a sweeping multi-day operation aimed at dismantling extortion rackets across Manipur, security forces arrested seven militants affiliated with various insurgent groups between July 21 and 23. The coordinated crackdown, conducted across multiple districts and border regions, marks a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to restore peace and curb militant-led financial intimidation.

The most notable arrests occurred on July 23, when two members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Taibanganba) were apprehended in Imphal West. Identified as Konjengbam Kanta Meitei (23) and Sanatomba Aheibam (24), the duo was accused of extorting funds from educational institutions and government departments. Authorities recovered ₹22,000 in extortion money, three mobile handsets, and additional cash worth ₹8,220 from their possession.

In a separate operation on the same day, Hidangmayum Naocha Sharma (35), an active KCP (MC) cadre, was arrested from Bishnupur district. He had reportedly been extorting local business owners. Also detained was Sanabam Ibungo Meitei (27), a KCP (PWG) operative known for targeting oil pumps in the valley. Security forces seized seven demand notes and a mobile phone, underlining the organised nature of these extortion schemes.
