Imphal, July 22: In a coordinated series of anti-insurgency operations, Security forces arrested seven active militants from two different outfits and recovered a significant cache of arms and equipment, officials confirmed on Monday.
The crackdown, conducted on July 21, was aimed at curbing ongoing insurgent activities and restoring peace in the state. A major success was recorded near the Indo-Myanmar border, where three cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) were apprehended near Border Pillar 79 in Pangal Basti under Moreh Police Station, Tengnoupal district. The arrested individuals were identified as Khumanthem Umakanta Singh (36), Pukhrambam Naoton Singh (22), and Soibam Bargil Meitei (23).

In another intelligence-led operation, four cadres of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) were arrested from the Koirengei Chingol Leikai area under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East. The militants—Nishan Ngangbam (24), Laishangbam Roshan Singh (35), Chungkham Kiran Meitei (21), and Chandam Ratan Meitei (41)—were taken into custody along with incriminating materials including a vehicle, cash, mobile phones, Aadhaar and PAN cards, and Nepalese currency.
Simultaneously, weapons recovery operations were launched in Kangpokpi district, where searches in Tingkai Khullen and surrounding villages yielded a large cache of firearms. Seized items included INSAS and M16 rifles, sniper weapons, pistols, locally-made firearms, and assorted ammunition.
