Senapati, August 29: The Zeliangrong community of Senapati on Friday observed the 94th Haipou Jadonang Martyrdom Day at the Maram Union Secretariat, Tahamzam
The event was graced by Shri A. Adakho, Vice President of the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), as the Chief Guest. The program was moderated by Eno. Kamei Manganchan, A.E., DRDA, Senapati.
Delivering the welcome address, Enoli Meithailu Chawang, President of the Zeliangrong Women’s Union, Senapati, underlined the supreme sacrifices of Jadonang, noting that it was because of visionary leaders like him that the present generation can live in freedom.
The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial candle by Eno. Ng. Luikang, President of Zeliangrong Union, Senapati. He was joined by Enoli. Meithaliu Chawang President of the Zeliangrong Women’s Union and D. Widibou, Pastor of Zeliangrong Baptist Church, Senapati. The congregation observed a silent prayer in honor of the great hero, followed by the singing of the hymn “We Shall Overcome.”
In his brief tribute, Eno. Elamsappe, Finance Secretary, NPO, recalled the short but impactful life of Haipou Jadonang, who dedicated all of his 26 years to the cause of his people. This was followed by the offering of floral tributes to the great leader.
In his address, Chief Guest A. Adakho, stressed the importance of commemorating Haipou Jadonang’s martyrdom. He reminded the gathering that Jadonang lived and sacrificed wholly for the cause of the Nagas, even enduring starvation for his people. He further suggested that the Zeliangrong community in Senapati District should consider erecting a statue of Haipou Jadonang at the district headquarters, assuring that the NPO would extend full support and assistance towards realizing this initiative.
Eno. Ng. Luikang, President of Zeliangrong Union, Senapati, in his closing remark, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest, Eno. A. Adakho, Vice President NPO, and his team, the special invitees, congregation, and the sound and light committee for contributing to the grand success of the program.
