Manipur MLAs Calls for Peace Amid Ongoing Clashes Between Ukhrul Villages

Ukhrul, Oct 2:   Following violent clashes between the villages of Hunphun and Hungpung in Ukhrul district over a land dispute, three Tangkhul legislators have issued an emotional plea for peace. The violence, which has led to casualties and injuries, has heightened tensions in the region.

In a joint statement, MLA Leishiyo Keishing of Phungyar, MLA Khashim Vashum, Manipur’s Minister of Transport and Veterinary Affairs, and MLA Ram Muivah of Ukhrul expressed their sorrow over the situation. They highlighted the deep bonds of kinship, history, and love between the two villages, emphasizing that they are not just neighbors but family. The legislators urged the communities to honor their shared heritage and avoid further division.

They called for restraint, stressing that no victory can come from harming their own people, and appealed to both villages to step back from the violence. The MLAs encouraged peace and compassion for the sake of future generations, urging an amicable resolution through dialogue.

They also offered condolences to the families of the victims, hoping that the region could return to peace.

Meanwhile the clash has resulted in the death of two civilians and one personnel of the 6th Manipur Rifles and over 30 others injured.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and additional security forces have been deployed to prevent further escalation.
