Imphal, Oct 3: In a tragic escalation of violence in Ukhrul, a civilian injured in the recent clashes in Ukhrul, stemming from a land dispute between two villages, died on Thursday morning at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.
The victim, YR Pamreiyo from Hungpung, was among several affected during the violent incident on Wednesday, which also claimed the lives of two civilians and one state security personnel, leaving several others injured.
During the unrest, a mob looted a total of 21 firearms from Ukhrul police station on Wednesday.
Police reports indicate that the mob broke into the station and made off with 21 weapons, including eight 9mm pistols, six INSAS rifles, three AK-47 rifles, two 9mm carbines, one SLR, and one Sten gun. They also seized nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition, including 340 INSAS rounds, 250 carbine rounds, 201 rounds of 9mm, 180 rounds of AK-47, and 10 rounds of SLR.
In response to the increasing violence, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) L Kailun has alerted senior police officers in all districts, stressing the urgent need for enhanced vigilance and security measures for arms and ammunition to prevent further incidents.
