SENAPATI, Oct 8: Don Bosco Hr. Secondary School Maram Khunou wrapped up its annual Games and Sports cum Literary and Cultural Meet under the theme “Unleash the Champion Within,” which ran from October 3 to October 8. This year’s program highlighted the school’s commitment to a holistic learning approach, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of integrating education as a way of life.
The event culminated on October 8 with Cultural Day, a vibrant showcase of tradition and heritage. Students arrived in colorful, traditional attire and participated in events aimed at celebrating their identity and ancestral roots. Programs included the Poula folk song competition, horn-blowing contests, war cries, traditional fire-making techniques, and the Tchii-ha jump—a unique Maram tradition exclusively for women. The day concluded with a cultural fusion featuring dances from the Maram, Mao, Zeliangrong, and Tangkhul communities, fostering a deep appreciation for cultural continuity among the youth.
On October 7, the school hosted Literary Day, focusing on building students’ creative and communicative abilities. The day’s activities allowed students to express themselves through solo singing, mime, painting, poetry, nature photography, and Western and mega group dances. Competitions also included declamations on trending Northeast and global figures, a debate on the use and ban of plastic bags in Senapati, and a session on upcycling waste materials into creative designs. These events enabled students to exchange ideas, build confidence, and engage in thoughtful discussions, making it a highly rewarding experience.
The inaugural ceremony on October 3 saw the theme “Unleash the Champion Within” officially launched. Mr. Lohrii, President of the United Naga Council (UNC), and Mr. Heutwalung James Hau of the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA), opened the event with a flag-hoisting ceremony, marking the start of a week focused on skill-building, confidence, and cultural awareness.
Overall, the annual meet offered students a platform to balance academics with co-curricular pursuits, building resilience and pride in their heritage. It was a remarkable week that encouraged students to embrace their identity, engage in lifelong learning, and confidently step into the future.
