OKING, Oct 12: The NSCN/GPRN have strongly denounced Yung Aung, accusing him of sabotaging the Naga struggle for sovereignty. In a strongly-worded statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Publicity, the NSCN/GPRN called Yung Aung a “gangster” and a “traitor” to the Naga people, particularly targeting his actions against the Eastern Nagas.
According to the statement, Yung Aung has made false claims of fighting both the Indian Security Forces and the Myanmar Army, but his actions, in reality, are aimed at undermining the future of students and bringing socio-economic decay to Naga society. “Yung Aung’s true approach is not Naga Sovereignty but earning tips to fulfill his individualistic ambitions,” the statement said. The NSCN/GPRN accused Aung of illegal taxation, noting that he has already extorted taxes for the years 2024, 2025, and 2026—a practice the Nagas have never experienced under the occupation of British, Indian, or Myanmar.
The group further condemned Aung for creating chaos and instilling terrorism in the region. They cited one of his most egregious acts of betrayal—sending five members of the NSCN’s Ceasefire Committee to meet with the Myanmar Government, only to have them imprisoned as part of a setup orchestrated by Aung. The statement also revealed that these members were unconstitutionally expelled from the group without approval from the Tatar Hoho, the Naga governing council.
The NSCN/GPRN also accused Yung Aung of using false prophets and soothsayers to maintain his influence as Chairman, with his cousin Chowansing allegedly a witness to these manipulations. They portrayed Aung’s leadership as primitive, focused on isolating the Eastern Nagas, while the NSCN/GPRN continues efforts to modernize and bring hope to the region. The group questioned the protection enjoyed by Aung’s family and followers in New Salang village, Changlang district, under the Indian security forces, despite his anti-India stance.
The NSCN/GPRN’s under the leadership of his Excellency Chairman Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Ang Mai, Vice President Nyeiton Konyak, and General Secretary Kughalu Mulatonu, expressed their commitment to protecting Naga unity and sovereignty, despite Aung’s divisive actions. They condemned Aung for driving out Naga leaders from the west and aligning himself with India’s “divide and rule” strategy. Describing him as a “foolish dictator under the influence of opium and drugs,” the NSCN/GPRN notes Aung’s claim, “I don’t need public support, I’ll fight alone,” as indicative of his arrogance and misguided approach.
The statement criticized Aung’s brazen attack on the General Headquarters (GHQ), where sacred records of the Naga struggle, dating back to leaders such as S.S. Khaplang, the late Chairman Isak Chishi Swu, and General Secretary Th. Muivah, are stored. The attack, they said, marks one of the darkest moments in Naga history and constitutes a crime against the Naga people, far worse than any terrorist organization in the world.
The NSCN/GPRN further accused Aung of tearing apart the fabric of Naga society, claiming that he supports non-Naga armed groups while betraying his own people. “Yung Aung is a virus, a poisonous threat to the Naga cause,” they stated, calling on the Naga people to recognize him as an anti-Naga force. They urged the community to unite and reject Aung’s destructive path.
Reaffirming their commitment to peaceful resolutions with both India and Myanmar, the NSCN/GPRN leadership stressed that the unity and survival of the Naga people are non-negotiable.
The statement concluded with a challenge to Yung Aung, questioning his legitimacy as a leader of the Naga sovereignty movement. “Mr. Yung Aung, what is your sovereignty when you have disassociated and declared the entire Naga Freedom Fighters as your enemies? Whose sovereignty are you trying to preach? A gangster’s sovereignty?” the NSCN/GPRN asked.
