Senapati, Oct 26: The Poumai Premier League (PPL) Season X concluded with an engaging ceremony and an exhilarating final match today at the Astro Turf Ground, Senapati. The event was graced by Chief Guest J. Kumo Sha, Hon’ble MLA of 47 Karong AC, along with Guest of Honour Adahrii Maheo, CEO of ADC Senapati.
Isaac Thaoveinii, Co-Convenor of PPL, opened the ceremony with with a heartfelt address, expressing gratitude to the PPL committee for their hard work and dedication. He reflected on the journey of PPL, which began in 2014 in Delhi as a small initiative among Poumai people who envisioned sports as a way to promote physical and mental fitness. Starting with only 6 clubs, the league has grown significantly, with this season seeing the participation of 16 clubs.
In his address, Guest of Honour Adahrii Maheo described the Poumai League as a “celebration of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship.” He encouraged players to embrace the values of respect and fair play, while recognizing that participation itself is a significant achievement.
Chief Guest J. Kumo Sha highlighted the crucial role of sports in fostering personal development and recognized the increasing opportunities within India’s sports industry, particularly in football. He urged the PPL committee and Senapati District Olympic Association Manipur (SDOAM) to remain vigilant in identifying and nurturing talent, emphasizing the importance of supporting young athletes in their pursuit of excellence.
The event was also attended by Losii Dikho, Hon’ble MLA of Mao AC, S.S Dani, Speaker of the Poumai Naga Union(PNU), and J. Koveo, President of SDOAM. Other key federating units, such as NPO, SDWA, PNTM, SDOAM, PNNM, and SDSA.
An Intense Final Match: Pou Legend FC Claims the Championship
The closing ceremony culminated in a thrilling final match between Paokhaodu FC and Pou Legend FC. Both teams displayed remarkable skill and resilience, with Pou Legend FC ultimately securing victory with a 3-1 scoreline.
Pou Legend FC’s midfielder Dahrii opened the scoring, setting the team on the path to victory. Defender Daveikho followed with another goal, while midfielder Rakeveiche further strengthened their lead. Paokhaodu FC managed to get on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute, following an own goal by Pou Legend FC’s defender Naile in an attempt to intercept an attack.
With this victory, Pou Legend FC took home the coveted trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1 Lakh, bringing a memorable end to PPL Season X and showcasing the league’s impact on the Poumai community.
Rakeveiche PM from Pou Legend FC was awarded the Golden Ball for his outstanding contributions, while Ngaopuni from Paokhaodu FC received the title of Best Coach. The Best Manager accolade went to Mevei Grey of Pou Legend FC. The Golden Boot was jointly awarded to Chinakho of Paokhaodu FC and Haotinsem of Risk Raven FC, each scoring eight goals. Additionally, the Golden Glove award was given to Chinavi of Paokhaodu FC for his excellent goalkeeping performance.
