IMPHAL, Oct 28: A hand grenade was found at the main entrance of GP Women’s College, located near Raj Bhavan, early Monday morning, raising alarm and concerns regarding the safety of educational institutions.
According to the Manipur Police, the grenade was first noticed around 6:00 a.m. by passers-by near the college gate on Central Jail Road. The college’s location, less than 100 meters from Raj Bhavan, heightened the urgency of the situation.
Police responded swiftly, dispatching officers and the Manipur Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) to the scene shortly after the alert was raised. The BDS successfully defused the grenade by 6:40 a.m. and safely disposed of it in the Lamphel Game Village area at around 7:20 a.m.
Authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation to determine the motives behind the placement of the explosive and to identify those responsible for the incident. The incident comes amid extortion threats reported in several educational institutions.
