NEW DELHI, Nov 10: The Mao Students’ Union, Delhi (MSUD), celebrated its 52nd Freshers’ Meet cum Annual Gathering on November 9, at Shah Auditorium, New Delhi, under the theme “Embracing Culture and Envisioning Unity for Excellence.” This event honored over five decades of the Mao community’s vibrant cultural presence and achievements in Delhi NCR.
The event was graced by Hon’ble Losii Dikho, Member of the Legislative Assembly from 48 Mao A/C, Manipur, as Chief Guest. Addressing the audience, MLA Dikho emphasized the value of time and determination, urging attendees to “make every minute count.” He called upon the youth to pursue economic empowerment through entrepreneurship, noting, “Economic strength surpasses political influence.” He further stressed the importance of sincerity in community service, stating, “Politics should be about lifting each other up and working sincerely for the public.”
The gathering also featured distinguished dignitaries, including Asholi Chalai, President of the Mao Welfare Association Delhi and Joint Secretary of the National Commission for Women; K Moses Chalai, IAS, Secretary of the Inter State Council Secretariat, Ministry of Home Affairs; and Dr. Ashiho Asosii Mao, Director of the Botanical Survey of India, Kolkata, who attended as Guests of Honor.
Mrs. Koshia, Special Public Prosecutor of the District & Session Court, Senapati, shared her journey from Delhi, inspiring attendees to pursue personal growth and resilience amid challenges.
Other notable attendees included Mao Student Union member Mariikho O’Leriina, Tribunal General and Former President of the Mao Student Union, as well as Wennyei Konyak, Resident Commissioner of Nagaland House, New Delhi, who underscored the importance of community solidarity and unity within the Mao community in Delhi NCR.
The gathering’s second session featured vibrant entertainment, including music and a lively ululation (makei) competition, where Ronald Pfokreni won as champion, with Marikho Lerinah as first runner-up, bringing energy and enthusiasm to the audience. Freshers were celebrated with the titles of Mr. and Miss Freshers, awarded to Lohrii Mokukape and Kajini, respectively, adding excitement to the day. Cultural performances further showcased the community’s talent, leaving a memorable impression on all present.
