IMPHAL, Nov 18: The Manipur government on Monday has relieved Senior SP (Combat) Col (Retd) Nectar Sanjenbam of his duties, following an inquiry into the confrontation between a Special Commando Team led by him and protestors near the Jiribam Police Station on Sunday. The incident resulted in bullet injuries to two protestors, one of whom succumbed to their injuries.
The Home Department official order stated, “In view of conducting a detailed inquiry into the reported incident of confrontation between the Special Commando Team led by Col. (Retd) Nectar Sanjenbam, Senior SP (Combat), and the protestors near the Jiribam Police Station on Sunday, the Governor of Manipur has constituted an Inquiry Committee. The committee will include Kabib K, IGP (Intelligence), and Ningshen Worngam, DIG (Range-III). The inquiry will be initiated immediately, and the services of Col. (Retd) Nectar Sanjenbam as Senior SP (Combat) shall be discontinued.”
The committee has been tasked with investigating the causes and circumstances of the confrontation and any factors that may have contributed to the incident. It will also examine potential foul play by individuals or public authorities. The findings are to be submitted within 30 days.
