NEW DELHI, Nov 19: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Tuesday that the government will hold an ‘All Party Meeting’ on November 24 (Sunday) at the Parliament House Annexe ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament.
Taking to X, Rijiju stated, “An All Party Meeting will be held on November 24, at 11 am in the Main Committee Room, Parliament House Annexe, in view of the coming Winter Session of Parliament.” He earlier confirmed that the Winter Session will commence on November 25 and will last until December 20.
Rijiju noted, “The President, on the recommendation of the Government of India, has approved the proposal for summoning both Houses of Parliament for the Winter Session, 2024 from 25th November to 20th December, 2024 (subject to exigencies of parliamentary business).”
Additionally, he highlighted that November 26, recognized as Constitution Day, will mark the 75th Anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution, with celebrations planned in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan.
Among the legislative items on the agenda, the winter session may see efforts from the government to pass the Waqf Amendment Bill, which is currently under review by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). There is also the possibility of introducing the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently emphasized that his government is focused on achieving the ‘One Nation, One Poll’ initiative, which aims for simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
PM Modi stated, “We are now working towards One Nation, One Election, which will strengthen India’s democracy, provide optimal outcomes of India’s resources, and help the country gain new momentum in achieving the dream of a developed India. Today, India is moving towards One Nation, One Civil Code, which is a Secular Civil Code.”
However, the Congress Party has rejected the proposal for implementing One Nation, One Election, asserting that Prime Minister Modi must take everyone in Parliament into confidence regarding the issue.
