IMPHAL, Nov 20: Manipur Congress leaders has urged the All India Congress Committee (AICC) President, Mallikarjun Kharge, to take immediate action against senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram over his recent controversial post on X regarding the ongoing Manipur crisis.

In an emergency meeting convened by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) members, a CWC member, former MPCC Presidents, ex-party Ministers, and PCC members, the leaders unanimously condemned Chidambaram’s post. They described it as highly inappropriate, given the current climate of heightened tension, public grief, and political sensitivity in the state.

In their letter to Mallikarjun Kharge, the leaders reiterated the Congress Party’s commitment to the unity and territorial integrity of Manipur. They requested the AICC to take swift and appropriate action against Chidambaram for his remarks and demanded that he delete the contentious post immediately.

Chidambaram’s controversial post criticized the central government’s handling of the Manipur crisis, stating: “Rushing 5,000 MORE central armed police jawans is not the answer to the Manipur crisis. It is more wisdom: acknowledging that Mr. Biren Singh, the Chief Minister, is the cause of the crisis and removing him immediately. It is more understanding: that the Meitei, the Kuki-Zo, and the Naga can live together in one State only if they have genuine regional autonomy. It is more statesmanship: for the Hon’ble PM to give up his obstinacy, visit Manipur, and speak to the people of Manipur with humility and learn first-hand their grievances and aspirations.”

The Manipur Congress leaders condemned these remarks, arguing that such statements could further escalate the already fragile situation in the state. They stressed the importance of maintaining unity within the party and avoiding divisive rhetoric during such a critical time.
