National Public Broadcaster Prasar Bharati Launches OTT Platform WAVES

PANAJI, Nov 21: Prasar Bharati, the national public broadcaster, has unveiled its new OTT platform, WAVES, during the opening ceremony of the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on Wednesday. This new platform seeks to cater to the growing demand for digital streaming services, while also embracing India’s cultural and emotional heritage by offering a blend of timeless classics and modern digital trends.

WAVES features popular shows such as Ramayan, Mahabharat, Shaktimaan, and Hum Log, bringing back nostalgic favorites to the digital world. The platform aims to connect audiences with India’s rich cultural heritage while providing a range of entertainment options.

Prasar Bharati Chairman Navneet Kumar Sehgal emphasized that WAVES stands apart from other OTT platforms by offering clean, family-oriented entertainment. The platform not only features iconic shows but also offers news, documentaries, and regional content, promoting inclusivity and diversity.

With content available in over 12 languages and spanning more than ten genres, WAVES caters to a diverse audience. Its expansive library includes regional content, women-centric programming, animation, and live channels such as Doordarshan and Akashvani. In addition to on-demand content, WAVES also features live events, including the Prabhu Shriram Lalla Aarti LIVE from Ayodhya and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly Mann Ki Baat broadcasts. Starting tomorrow, the platform will also carry the US Premier League Cricket Tournament LIVE.

Further enhancing its appeal, WAVES offers a variety of features including video on demand, free-to-play gaming, radio streaming, live TV streaming, and 65 live channels. The platform also integrates several apps for video and gaming content and provides an online shopping experience through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC)-supported e-commerce platform.
