SHILLONG, Nov 21: Ace boxer Mary Kom has been named the brand ambassador for the Assam Rifles Half-Marathon (ARHM) to be held in Shillong on November 24. This year’s half-marathon is set to be the largest in the Northeast, with a record number of participants expected, including runners from across the region and other states.

The event has grown in popularity over the years, and this year’s edition is anticipated to attract dignitaries from various sectors, including the government and armed forces. Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, Director General of Assam Rifles, expressed his excitement for the event, saying, “I am extremely pleased to share that ARHM Shillong will take place on 24th November 2024, and is expected to surpass all previous records of participation. Assam Rifles Half-Marathon aims to foster a culture of wellness, fitness and togetherness in the Northeast. I welcome and encourage each and every person from the Northeast to take part in this event.”

In a bid to enhance the event’s appeal, Assam Rifles has partnered with renowned boxer MC Mary Kom as the event’s brand ambassador. “MC Mary Kom is an icon, who perfectly embodies the core values of Assam Rifles – valour, glory and sacrifice. We are extremely honored to have her as our Brand Ambassador for ARHM Shillong,” Lt Gen Lakhera added.

Mary Kom, who is also a prominent figure in promoting fitness and wellness, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership. “I am very excited about this partnership with Assam Rifles for the half-marathon in Shillong. This is a wonderful initiative for promoting health and harmony amongst the people of the Northeast,” she said. The boxer encouraged the people of the Northeast to participate, urging them to come forward and make the event a success.
