IMPHAL, Nov 22: The Manipur Police on Thursday reported that the state remained tense but under control in the last 24 hours, as security forces conducted search operations and patrolled vulnerable areas in both hill and valley districts to maintain stability.
According to the report, 7 individuals were arrested on November 20 and 21 in connection with arson and property damage incidents targeting elected members on November 16. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to 32. The arrested individuals were identified as:
- Wahengbam Jyotikumar Singh (25)
- Khundrakpam Bikram Singh (41)
- Monish Nepram (31)
- Aribam Mirachandra Sharma (41)
- Elangbam Harison Singh, also known as Dada (34)
- Lourembam Norojit Singh, also known as Nonni Singh (40)
- Laimayum Kedarnath Sharma (37)
The police stated that investigations are ongoing to address the arson incidents and ensure accountability.
To facilitate the movement of essential supplies, security measures were tightened along National Highways 37 and 2, ensuring the safe passage of 482 vehicles. Convoys and checkpoints were deployed in sensitive areas to guarantee smooth transportation.
A total of 105 checkpoints were set up across various districts, although no detentions were reported during the operations. These measures aim to prevent any further escalation of tensions in the state.
Authorities urged the public to verify the authenticity of any circulating videos or rumors through the Central Control Room’s rumour-free helpline at 9233522822. They also renewed calls for the return of stolen arms, ammunition, and explosives to police or security forces.
