IMPHAL, Nov 26: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh presided over the observance of Constitution Day at the Durbar Hall, CM’s Secretariat in Babupara today. Organized by the Law & Legislative Affairs Department, Government of Manipur, the event marked a significant step in promoting constitutional values and linguistic inclusivity.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of creating mass awareness about the Indian Constitution to build a strong and united nation. He lauded the efforts of officials involved in translating key legal documents into the Meetei Mayek script, enabling better comprehension for current and future generations.
The Chief Minister urged the people of Manipur to internalize the values, principles, and rights enshrined in the Constitution. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary to ensure development in the state.
The Chief Minister also informed that the State government has taken up various initiatives like “War on Drugs” to control the drug menace and curb the illegal immigration in the State. He further stated that border fencing along the border has also been initiated.
The Chief Minister also stated that while the government respects democratic forms of protest, acts of violence and the involvement of anti-social elements in damaging public and private property will not be tolerated. He emphasized the need to eliminate such elements to foster a strong and united Manipur.
A key highlight of the event was the release of the Diglot Edition of three major criminal acts translated into the Meetei Mayek script. This initiative aims to make legal literature accessible to a wider audience and promote the indigenous script.
The event was graced by prominent figures including Advocate General of Manipur Shri Lenin Singh Hijam, Member of Parliament Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, Special Chief Secretary Shri M.H. Khan, administrative secretaries, and members of the legal fraternity.
