GUWAHATI, Nov 26: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, has called for the immediate eviction of illegal Kuki settlers in the district, following reports that individuals from Manipur’s Kuki community have established settlements in the region.
Speaking at a land patta distribution event in Howraghat, Ronghang raised concerns over the alleged encroachment by nearly 1,000 individuals from the Kuki community, with around 500 families occupying land in the Karbi hills.
Ronghang emphasized that these illegal settlements must be vacated immediately to prevent further encroachment. He made a strong appeal for swift action to remove the settlers, citing the growing tensions in the region. The issue has gained prominence amid the ongoing violence in Manipur, leading to fears of a mass influx of people fleeing the unrest in the state and seeking refuge in Karbi Anglong, Assam.
