NEW DELHI, Nov 28: Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day on Thursday amid uproar by opposition parties over multiple issues, including alleged bribery charges against a prominent business group. The opposition, led by Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, and others, raised several concerns, leading to disruptions in proceedings.

In the Rajya Sabha, when the House reconvened at 12:00 PM after its first adjournment, members from Congress, Left parties, DMK, TMC, SP, AAP, and others continued to raise slogans, demanding attention to the issues they had raised. This forced the Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, to adjourn the House for the day. The Chairman appealed to opposition members to return to their seats and participate in productive discussions but was met with continued protests. He emphasized that the disruption of proceedings weakens the foundations of democracy and urged for constructive dialogue.

Similarly, in the Lok Sabha, opposition members created chaos after the House met at 12:00 PM following the first adjournment. Members of Congress and other opposition parties trooped into the well of the House, raising slogans. The presiding officer repeatedly called for order, but the protests continued, leading to another adjournment for the day.

In response to the uproar, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the opposition’s actions, stating that Congress and other opposition members were deliberately creating chaos and not allowing new members to present their views.

Meanwhile, Jagdambika Pal, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, moved a motion to extend the time for the presentation of the Committee’s report to the last day of the Budget Session in 2025. The motion was adopted by the House.

Earlier in the day, Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan, both winners in the recently held by-elections, took their oaths as Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi also spoke to the media, questioning the opposition’s behavior in disrupting the proceedings. He reiterated that the government was ready to discuss any issues that had been allowed by the Speaker and Chairman.
