NEW DELHI, Dec 3: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday, gave an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha, demanding a discussion on the ongoing situation in Manipur. In his notice, Gogoi expressed concern over the grave and deteriorating crisis in the state, which has now been ongoing for over 18 months. He described the conflict as spiraling into a humanitarian crisis, marked by widespread violence, displacement, and economic devastation.

Gogoi blamed the state government for its failure to contain the violence and restore peace, noting that Manipur is now divided along ethnic lines, with both communities armed and locked in a cycle of violence. He also highlighted the porous border with Myanmar, which has become a hotspot for illegal arms trade and drug trafficking, exacerbating the situation further.

The Congress MP sharply criticized the BJP-led central government for its indifference toward the crisis, accusing it of adopting an “out of sight, out of mind” approach. Gogoi emphasized the devastating economic impact of the violence, with businesses shut down, livelihoods destroyed, and the state’s financial health significantly worsened. He also pointed out the delay in salary payments and pension disbursements, which has added to the suffering of the people.

Gogoi urged Parliament to immediately take cognizance of the crisis and demand a comprehensive discussion on the matter. He stated, “The future of Manipur and the unity and integrity of India are at stake. We cannot afford to ignore this crisis any longer.”

The move comes amidst ongoing disruptions in Parliament, with opposition parties demanding discussions on various issues, including the Adani issue, Sambhal violence, and the situation in Manipur. The Winter Session of Parliament, which began on November 25, will continue until December 20.
