IMPHAL, Dec 5: The Manipur government has extended the temporary suspension of mobile internet, mobile data services, including VSATs and VPN services, in nine districts of the state until 5:15 PM of December 7. The order, issued by the Home Department, applies to Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl, and Jiribam districts.
The government stated that the decision to extend the suspension was based on a review of the current law and order situation in the region, which is closely linked to the functioning of internet services. The suspension aims to maintain public order and curb the ongoing tensions in the state.
The internet services had initially been suspended in these districts on November 16 to address the escalating unrest and protests led by civil organizations. The government’s decision to extend the ban highlights the continuing concern over the security situation and its potential impact on public safety.
The authorities have emphasized that the temporary suspension of internet services is being implemented in the public interest to prevent further disruptions and maintain peace in the affected areas.
