North-East India Has Potential to be Centre of South-East Asia’s Development: Sarbananda Sonowal

NEW DELHI, Dec 6: Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated today that North-East India has the potential to become the centre of South-East Asia’s development in the coming years.

Speaking at a press conference on Empowering the North East – Transformational Decade Towards Atmanirbhar Bharat in New Delhi, Sonowal emphasized the region’s pivotal role in the Government’s Act East Policy, which he noted has significantly transformed the area.

The Minister highlighted the Government’s ground-level approach to the North-East’s development, pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the region over 60 times in the past decade. Furthermore, Central Ministers have visited every 15 days, bringing peace, stability, and empowerment to the people of the region. According to Sonowal, these efforts have played a crucial role in fostering progress and strengthening the region’s socio-economic landscape.

Sonowal also stated that North-East India will play a vital role in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and making India self-reliant (Atmanirbhar). He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to the region’s growth and emphasized that the North-East’s development is critical for achieving national aspirations.

In addition to his remarks on the region’s development, Sonowal paid tribute to Dr. BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and social reformer, on his 69th death anniversary. The day, observed as Mahaparinirvan Diwas, marks the significant contributions of Dr. Ambedkar in shaping modern India.
