NEW DELHI, Dec 6: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday informed the House that a wad of currency notes had been found from seat number 222, which is currently allotted to Congress MP and senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi. The discovery was made during a routine anti-sabotage check after the House had adjourned the previous day. Dhankhar confirmed that the matter has been handed over to the authorities for investigation.
Addressing the issue, Abhishek Singhvi denied any involvement, calling the situation “bizarre.” Speaking to reporters, Singhvi detailed his brief presence in Parliament the day before, stating that he was only in the House for three minutes before it adjourned and spent the rest of his time in the canteen. “I find it bizarre that politics is raised even on such issues. There must be an inquiry into how someone could place something on a seat without detection,” Singhvi remarked.
Dhankhar, during his statement, mentioned that the security officials had found the currency notes from Singhvi’s designated seat, which is assigned to the Congress MP from Telangana. “The matter was brought to my notice, and I made sure an investigation takes place. The investigation is underway,” Dhankhar said.
Singhvi further suggested that MPs should be given secure seats with lockable mechanisms to avoid such incidents. He stressed that any potential security lapses should be fully exposed. “If it was not tragic and serious, it would be comical. I think everybody should cooperate in getting to the bottom of this,” he added.
