AGARTALA, Dec 6: Tripura has achieved a remarkable feat by securing seven prestigious National Panchayat Awards in 2024, marking an unprecedented success in the state’s governance and rural development initiatives. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha announced the accomplishment on social media, celebrating this historic moment for the state. The awards will be presented by the President of India at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, on December 11.
Chief Minister Saha expressed immense pride, highlighting the scale of the achievement. He noted that Tripura competed against nearly two and a half lakh panchayats nationwide and emerged as a standout performer. He stated, “Tripura has created history by achieving great success in the National Panchayat Awards for the first time. Our state has been awarded a total of seven national awards this year with great pride.”
The list of awardees includes notable recognitions for Gomati district, which was declared the best district in the country and awarded ₹5 crore. Amarpur RD Block was honored as the second-best block in the nation, receiving ₹1.75 crore, while South Manubankul from Rupaichhari RD Block was recognized as the best women-friendly panchayat with a financial prize of ₹1 crore. Other recipients include Thakcherra, Betchara, Debbari, and Rajkang, which were recognized for their contributions in categories such as sustainable energy, poverty alleviation, water adequacy, and child welfare, bringing the total award amount for the state to ₹10 crore.
Chief Minister Saha emphasized that this recognition underscores the transformative changes in governance and the quality of life under his administration. He congratulated all public representatives, panchayat members, and the State Panchayat Department for their hard work and dedication.
He described the awards as a testament to Tripura’s commitment to rural development, women’s empowerment, and sustainable governance. This achievement not only brings immense pride to the state but also reflects its efforts to foster inclusivity, enhance community infrastructure, and improve the lives of its citizens.
