NEW DELHI, Dec 11: In a continued series of protests, several opposition MPs on Wednesday greeted their BJP counterparts in Parliament with the Indian tricolour in one hand and a red rose in the other, urging the ruling party to ensure the House functions and that critical issues, including the Adani matter, are addressed. This demonstration was part of a broader daily protest led by Congress over the ongoing Adani controversy.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, was seen offering a tricolour card to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh as he entered the main Parliament building. Along with Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, MPs from the Congress, DMK, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and Left parties, stood in front of the Makar Dwar steps. Most protesters carried a small tricolour card and a red rose, while some displayed placards bearing the slogan, “Don’t let the country be sold.”
This protest follows a series of symbolic actions by the opposition, including a demonstration on Tuesday where MPs carried dark blue ‘jholas’ with caricatures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani, with the words “Modi-Adani Bhai-Bhai” printed on them. The opposition has repeatedly raised slogans against alleged collusion between Modi and Adani, demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the matter.
Protests by opposition parties over the Adani issue have intensified since the start of the Winter session. The Congress and some other opposition parties are calling for a JPC investigation into allegations of financial misconduct involving Adani’s conglomerate, especially following his indictment by a US court. Rahul Gandhi has demanded the immediate arrest of Adani. The Adani Group, however, has dismissed all allegations as baseless.
