IMPHAL, Dec 17: In a major breakthrough after the brutal killing of two non-locals at Keirak on December 14, 2024, by unidentified armed assailants, Manipur Police have launched extensive operations, resulting in the arrest of eight cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive War Group) [KCP (PWG)] and the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
Based on intelligence inputs, police apprehended an active cadre of the KCP (PWG), identified as Irengbam Rameshwar Singh (48), on December 16 in the Kakching Lamkhai area under Kakching Police Station in Kakching district. Following his arrest, Rameshwar Singh provided crucial information that led to an operation at a suspected camp in the Kakching Mamang Ching Laipham Loknung area. This operation resulted in the arrest of seven more cadres, namely Elangbam Herojit Singh (40), Heikrujam Prem (28), Okram Arundatta (30), Senjam Rebingson (27), Okram Amarjit (31), Aribam Ghanendrajit Sharma (25), and Chongtham Rajkumar (26).
During the operation, the police seized a cache of arms and ammunition, which included several pistols, a sniper rifle, double-barrel and single-barrel breech-loading guns, and explosive devices, including three high explosive grenades with a detonator. In addition, authorities recovered 19 live rounds of ammunition, two empty cartridges, communication equipment such as Baofeng handsets and mobile phones, an unregistered two-wheeler vehicle, and other miscellaneous items.
The police have assured the public that stringent measures will be taken against individuals involved in such heinous acts.
