IMPHAL, Dec 17: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced the approval of Rs 777.61 crore for the widening and improvement of the Shangshak-Tengnoupal Road (Package-3) section on National Highway-102A. Sharing the update on the social media platform X, Gadkari stated, “In Manipur, we have sanctioned a budget of Rs 777.61 crore for the widening and improvement of the Shangshak-Tengnoupal Road (Package-3) section of National Highway-102A.”
This project, part of the Annual Plan for 2024-25, focuses on upgrading a 48-kilometre stretch of the road to a two-lane configuration. The road connects the critical districts of Ukhrul and Kamjong, beginning at Khonglo and ending at Kasom-Khullen.
The primary objectives of the project include enhancing road capacity, lowering vehicle operating costs, and providing better services for commuters. The improved road is expected to ease travel between Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, boost local infrastructure, and catalyze economic growth in the region.
Beyond better connectivity, the project is anticipated to promote tourism, support local businesses, and create job opportunities, contributing to the socio-economic development of Manipur. The upgraded road infrastructure is seen as a critical step towards fostering social and economic growth in the state.
