Scindia Highlights North-East India as Key Gateway to Southeast Asian Markets

MUMBAI, Dec 17: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, highlighted North-East India’s pivotal role as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia, urging investors to capitalize on the region’s growth potential. Speaking at the ‘North East Trade and Investment Roadshow’ in Mumbai, Scindia emphasized that investing in the region would offer access to vast Southeast Asian markets, contributing to India’s economic future.

Scindia pointed out that the North-East region has achieved an impressive 11 percent GDP growth rate and is now well-positioned to contribute significantly to the nation’s growth. “The development of infrastructure, human resources, and specialized sectors has positioned North-East India as a key player in the nation’s future,” he said.

He stressed the importance of fostering strong business relationships between Mumbai and the North-East, ensuring a seamless path for growth and innovation. Scindia also underscored the region’s progress in various sectors such as tourism, renewable energy, sports, and IT. He called for a quality-driven approach to development that would help harness the region’s vast potential.

Addressing investors, the minister assured that North-East India’s youth, high literacy rates, and abundant natural resources make it an attractive investment destination, particularly in sectors like sustainable agriculture, manufacturing, and technology. “With policies in place to support business growth and a commitment to reducing red tape, North-East India is now offering a red carpet to investors, which will contribute to the growth of India, especially its youth,” Scindia added.

Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr) Manik Saha also took the opportunity to highlight the state’s remarkable economic performance under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that Tripura, recognized as one of the most peaceful states, has a per capita income of Rs 1,77,000, making it the second-largest GSDP contributor in the North-East. With robust infrastructure, including excellent road, water, air, and rail connectivity, Tripura is becoming a preferred destination for investors.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, meanwhile, shared that the state is witnessing transformative growth, driven by strong leadership and a focused investment and development strategy. He expressed optimism that the North-East’s growth would continue to gain momentum, supported by both local and national efforts to make the region an attractive business hub.

The roadshow marked a significant push to showcase North-East India as a thriving economic zone, ready to attract investment and play a central role in the country’s economic development.
