KUWAIT, Dec 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored with The Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Kuwait’s highest national award, by Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait, on December 22, 2024. This prestigious recognition, awarded during the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years, added a historic dimension to the occasion.
Accepting the award, Prime Minister Modi dedicated it to the enduring friendship between India and Kuwait, to the vibrant Indian community in Kuwait, and to the 1.4 billion people of India. Instituted in 1974, the award has been bestowed on select global leaders for their outstanding contributions.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi met with the Amir of Kuwait, marking their first-ever meeting. The two leaders revisited the robust historical and friendly ties between their countries and pledged to elevate bilateral relations to the level of a “Strategic Partnership.”
Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude to His Highness the Amir for safeguarding the well-being of the over one million-strong Indian community in Kuwait. The Amir, in turn, acknowledged the significant contributions of the Indian community to Kuwait’s development.
During their discussions, the Prime Minister also commended Kuwait’s progressive steps towards achieving its Vision 2035 and congratulated the Amir for successfully hosting the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit earlier this month.
In addition to his meeting with the Amir, Prime Minister Modi also held discussions with Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince of Kuwait.
