Nearly 10 Lakh Jobs Distributed Under Rozgar Mela Since 2022: PM Modi

NEW DELHI, Dec 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Monday that nearly 10 lakh permanent government jobs have been offered through the Rozgar Mela initiative since its launch in October 2022. Speaking at the 14th edition of the recruitment drive, PM Modi hailed the achievement as a significant milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to provide transparent and fair employment opportunities to citizens.

Launched on October 22, 2022, Rozgar Mela was designed to recruit 10 lakh personnel across various government ministries and departments. In its inaugural edition, the initiative saw 75,000 new recruits receive their appointment letters. Since then, a total of 9.25 lakh job letters have been distributed over 14 editions.

On Monday, the latest edition of the Rozgar Mela saw 71,000 new appointees receiving their appointment letters during ceremonies held at 45 locations across the country. The latest drive underscored the government’s strong commitment to creating job opportunities and addressing unemployment across India.

The Rozgar Mela has evolved into a key platform that connects job seekers with government employers, empowering individuals to contribute to the nation’s development. PM Modi emphasized the government’s dedication to facilitating employment while ensuring transparency and fairness in the recruitment process.

In the 13th edition, held on October 29, 51,000 appointment letters were handed out, further reinforcing the government’s focus on employment. On that occasion, the Prime Minister also highlighted efforts to enhance international employment prospects for Indian youth. He mentioned Germany’s Skilled Labour Strategy, which had increased the annual visas for skilled Indian workers from 20,000 to 90,000. Additionally, India has signed migration and employment agreements with 21 countries, including Japan, Australia, France, Germany, and several Gulf nations.

Across earlier editions of Rozgar Mela, appointment letters were also distributed in large numbers. In editions two, three, four, and five, 71,000 appointees received their job letters. The sixth (June 13) and seventh (July 22) editions each saw 70,000 appointment letters being distributed. The eighth edition, held on August 28, 2023, witnessed 51,000 letters being handed out. The ninth, tenth, and eleventh editions, held earlier in the year, also saw 51,000 appointment letters being distributed each.

The highest number of appointment letters, 1 lakh, was distributed in the 12th edition of Rozgar Mela, which took place on February 12, 2024. On that occasion, PM Modi highlighted the government’s Budget announcement to install about 1 crore rooftop solar plants, a scheme that is expected to create lakhs of new jobs.
