KANGPOKPI, Dec 30: The Kuki-Zo MLAs in Sadar Hills, has strongly condemned the recent attacks on their communities in the fringe areas of Saibol, Twichin, Mongneljang, and S. Khonomphai, allegedly carried out by militant groups since December 24.
In a joint statement, three MLAs—Nemcha Kipgen, Haokholet Kipgen, and Kimneo Hangshing—termed the aggression as “shameful and condemnable,” asserting that the targeted areas lie within their administrative jurisdiction. They rejected any interference from valley-based authorities, emphasizing the effectiveness and competence of their governance structures.
The statement further highlighted the ongoing persecution faced by the Kuki-Zo community for the past 19 months, enduring ethnic and religious violence. The recent assaults during the festive season have added to their suffering. However, the leaders urged their people to remain vigilant and steadfast, focusing on the protection of their land while refraining from retaliation.
The leaders also appealed to the Inter-Agency Unified Command to prevent the establishment of camps for valley-based insurgent groups in the sensitive hill-valley border areas. Additionally, they cautioned state police forces against becoming instruments of radical organizations such as Arambai Tenggol, which they accused of acting as “Trojan horses” in the ongoing conflict.
The statement condemned the unprovoked attacks during Christmas as a deliberate provocation, aimed at undermining the community’s hopes for peace and reconciliation. It also expressed deep disappointment with the valley-based Meitei leadership’s failure to foster harmony, contrasting it with the Kuki-Zo leadership’s commitment to achieving political aspirations through peaceful and restrained means.
In conclusion, the Kuki-Zo MLAs called for unity and resilience, urging their people to rise above provocations and continue their dignified fight for justice and self-determination.
