PM Modi Holds Talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

NEW DELHI, Jan 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in New Delhi, where both leaders discussed deepening cooperation across several sectors. The discussions resulted in agreements in areas such as Health Cooperation, Traditional Medicine, Maritime Safety and Security, Cultural Exchange, and Digital Development. The third India-Indonesia CEO forum’s report was also presented during the talks.

In his press statement, PM Modi emphasized that India and Indonesia had transformed their relationship into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during his 2018 visit to Indonesia. He highlighted enhanced cooperation in the defence sector, including Defence Manufacturing and Supply Chain. Both countries also agreed to strengthen their collaboration in Maritime Security, Cyber Security, Counter-Terrorism, and De-Radicalisation efforts.

PM Modi further mentioned that India is sharing its experiences in Health and Food Security sectors, such as the Mid-Day Meal Scheme and Public Distribution System, with Indonesia. He noted the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations, dating back thousands of years, with shared inspirations from epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata, and the ‘Bali Jatra’ celebrations.

President Prabowo Subianto expressed gratitude for the warm reception during his first state visit to India and reiterated both nations’ commitment to accelerating cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The leaders also discussed the strategic importance of their partnership, particularly in the ASEAN and Indo-Pacific regions, where both countries are dedicated to maintaining peace, security, and prosperity.
