Manipur Celebrates 76th Republic Day

IMPHAL, Jan 26: Manipur joined the nationwide celebrations of India’s 76th Republic Day with vibrant events held at the historic Kangla Fort, marking the day with mass participation from across the state. Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, unfurled the National Flag and took the salute at the State Level Republic Day Celebrations, 2025, which featured a spectacular display of march-past contingents, cultural performances, and tableaux.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and senior officials from the civil and police departments were present at the celebration. The ceremony commenced with a Guard of Honour inspection, led by Shri Jay Barange, IPS Probationer, Thoubal District. The Governor then unfurled the Tricolour as the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Band played the National Anthem, followed by a salute from 54 march-past contingents, including different bands and cultural troupes. The event also showcased 12 department tableaux and a special drive-past by the Manipur Fire Service.

In recognition of their service, the Governor decorated police officers and personnel with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, marking both the Republic Day and Independence Day of 2023. The recipients included officers from various battalions and districts, such as Smt. Gurumayum Geetanjali Devi (Imphal East) and Shri Khanglanmei Kamei (2nd Battalion MR).

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh extended his gratitude to all participants and emphasized the significance of Republic Day, which marks the adoption of the Constitution of India on January 26, 1950. He expressed pride in the country’s progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, noting India’s rise as a global economic power and its recent achievements in defense and space exploration. He highlighted the government’s continued efforts in the development of social, health, and education sectors, as well as the preservation of India’s rich cultural heritage.

The Chief Minister also expressed optimism for Manipur’s future, noting that the participation of march-past contingents from across the state symbolized hope for peace and unity. He urged the public to work together for a stronger, united Manipur, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the state’s integrity. He also commended the discipline and unity of the uniformed personnel, reminding them that they represent not just their communities but the entire state and nation when in uniform.

Cultural troupes from various communities across the state showcased the diverse cultural heritage of Manipur, reinforcing the theme of unity in diversity. The 76th Republic Day celebrations were also observed by district administrations at their respective headquarters.
