IMPHAL, Jan 30: Manipur Police, as part of an ongoing crackdown on insurgent activities, arrested six insurgent cadres in separate operations over the past few days.
On January 29, 2025, police arrested two active cadres of the proscribed group RPF/PLA for their involvement in extorting shops in and around Paona Bazar. The arrested individuals were identified as Nepram Bothe Meitei (24) and Yengkhom Gyandas Singh, also known as Dinku or Chaningkhomba (24). During the operation, security forces recovered a .32 pistol with a loaded magazine containing seven rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, two mobile handsets, a wallet, ₹6,210 in cash, an Aadhaar card, and a two-wheeler from their possession.

In a separate operation on January 28, 2025, Central Forces apprehended three active cadres of the proscribed KYKL group and one cadre of UNLF-K in the general area between BP-85 and BP-86 in Tengnoupal District. The insurgents were later handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station. The arrested individuals were identified as Rishikanta Laishram (32) alias Malemnganba, Poireiton Leitanthem (26) alias Tokio, and Naorem Yohenba Singh (26) alias Nongyai (all KYKL), and Kh. Malemnganba Meitei (27) alias Phoungakpa (UNLF-K). Security forces recovered several items from the insurgents, including a Khukri (traditional blade), two mobile phones, one power bank, four liquor bottles, two debit cards, an Aadhaar card, a voter ID, and a PAN card.
In addition to these arrests, security forces conducted extensive search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable hill and valley districts. They facilitated the smooth transportation of essential goods by securing 287 vehicles along NH-2 and 224 vehicles along NH-37 under strict security measures. A total of 111 checkpoints (Nakas) were set up across various districts to maintain vigilance, although no detentions were reported for violations.
