IMPHAL, Feb 8: The Directorate General Assam Rifles – Men and Women Polo Championship 2025 concluded on Saturday at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung Polo Ground in Imphal, marking a major milestone in promoting the sport in Manipur. The championship, which began on January 20, featured 27 Men’s Polo Teams and 5 Women’s Polo Teams from across the state.
Organized by the Assam Rifles in collaboration with the All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA), the tournament attracted a massive audience of over 4,000 Polo enthusiasts, who gathered to celebrate the rich heritage of Polo in Manipur. The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, and Dr. Konsam Saratchandra Singh, President of AMPA.
The event kicked off with the ‘Rolling of the Ball’ by the DG Assam Rifles, which marked the start of the Women’s Polo final match. The Assam Rifles Mahila Polo Team emerged victorious with a 6-4 win against Linthoinganbi Kangjei Lup. In the highly anticipated Men’s final match, Manipur Police Sports Club (MPSC) Team B triumphed over X Polo Club with a narrow 7-6 victory.
In recognition of their contributions to sports promotion, both Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera were felicitated during the event. The prize distribution ceremony saw the winners of both categories receiving ₹50,000 each along with trophies, while the runners-up were awarded ₹40,000 each. Additionally, cash prizes of ₹10,000 were awarded for Best Discipline Teams, Best Player, and Best Pony in both categories.
