IMPHAL, Feb 18: In a swift and strategic operation, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police apprehended a cadre and recovered arms in Churachandpur District, Manipur, following a specific intelligence tip-off. The joint forces launched a cordon and search operation in the general Kaprang area, suspecting the presence of an armed cadre.
As the security forces closed in, the individual attempted to flee under the cover of darkness. However, in a display of tactical discipline and concern for civilian safety, the forces refrained from opening fire. Instead, they pursued the fugitive on foot, successfully surrounding him and forcing him to surrender.
Upon his arrest, an AK 47 rifle and ammunition were recovered from him. Further investigation of the house where he had been hiding led to the recovery of a .315 rifle and a country-made single-barrel rifle.
The apprehended individual identified himself as the Finance Secretary of the United National Kuki Army (UKNA). The captured cadre and the seized weapons were handed over to the Manipur Police for further legal action.
