DIMAPUR, Feb 22: The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has strongly rejected the recent allegations made by the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG), calling them baseless and false accusations. The WC-NNPG had accused the GNF of being a propped-up mouthpiece of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) and claimed that the forum was fueling division among the Naga people.
In a statement issued by the GNF on Saturday, the forum expressed its firm stance on Naga unity and self-determination, highlighting their motto of “One People, One Destiny.” The GNF stressed that Nagas do not require permission from anyone to live and govern themselves in their homeland, nor do they need to endure the imposition of military law (AFSPA), which allows armed forces to kill civilians “by mistaken identity” without criminal prosecution.
The GNF also pointed out that the presence of Indian security forces in Naga territories curtails the freedom of movement and the basic rights of the Naga people. The forum emphasized that, as a global body advocating for human rights, it could not remain silent in the face of false public accusations. It called on the WC-NNPG to respect the right of the GNF to truthful representation as fellow Nagas.
The GNF concluded by reaffirming its commitment to the defense of human rights and justice for the Naga people, both locally and internationally, and urged the WC-NNPG to cease spreading false narratives about the forum.
