SENAPATI, Feb 24: The Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) has leveled serious allegations against the Assam Rifles, accusing the paramilitary force of facilitating the movement of militants in Naga-inhabited regions of Manipur’s Senapati district during the early hours of February 22.

In a press conference held at the SDSA office, SDSA President, Saloni Tony claimed that SDSA officials had witnessed Assam Rifles personnel allegedly escorting members of the United People’s Front (UPF), a Kuki militant group that is currently under the Suspension of Operations (SOO) agreement. According to Tony, this incident suggests a possible tacit understanding between the paramilitary force and the armed group.

Tony condemned the alleged collaboration, expressing concern over the potential consequences for the peace and security of the region. “This act has created mistrust and misunderstanding among the residents of Naga areas of Senapati district,” Tony said. “We demand a clarification on the matter from the Assam Rifles.”

The president also raised concerns about the recent engagement of the Assam Rifles’ Director General with top Kuki militant leaders, especially given the heightened tensions in the area. Urging the paramilitary force to maintain neutrality, Tony called for an expedited peace process that does not favor any particular armed faction.

A viral video surfaced showing SDSA members questioning armed cadres, who identified themselves as UPF members. The cadres revealed that they were invited by the Assam Rifles’ Director General. In response, Assam Rifles personnel in the video stated that they were unaware of the matter.
