DIMAPUR, Feb 25: The Naga Hoho has once again emphasized the need to resolve the longstanding Naga political issue and urged the Naga people not to miss this “emerging significant opportunity” for resolution.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Naga Hoho pointed out that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have assured that the Government of India is prepared to resolve the Naga issue at the earliest. The hoho reminded the Naga people of the missed opportunity in 1965 when a chance to resolve the issue was lost.

“It is now over 50 years after the first opportunity was missed, and today, Nagas are on the threshold of resolving the issue. They should not let it slip away,” the statement said.

The Hoho also called on the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) to take bold, decisive action to resolve the protracted issue. It urged the groups to make it clear whether they are committed to resolving the issue or not.

Highlighting the frustrations of the younger generation due to a lack of employment opportunities, the Hoho warned that this discontent could fuel unrest. The Hoho stressed that addressing the historical and political rights of the Naga people, alongside contemporary political realities and socio-economic development, should be prioritized in any solution.

The release questioned the Government of India’s delay in finalizing the Naga peace talks and insisted that the Government must officially announce the two agreements—the Framework Agreement signed with the NSCN (IM) and the ‘Agreed Position’ with the Naga National Political Groups—without hesitation.

“The Naga Hoho urged the NPGs to be transparent with the Naga people, acknowledging that after years of negotiation, the current proposals are the only viable solutions available under the present political circumstances,” the release stated.

The Naga Hoho concluded by urging the Naga people to come together and support the negotiating groups in bringing the Naga political issue to a logical and timely resolution.
