KANGPOKPI, Feb 27: Security forces in Manipur successfully dismantled four unauthorised checkpoints along National Highway 02 on February 27. The operation was a joint effort between the Indian Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and Manipur Police, targeting illegal checkpoints situated between Sapermeina and Kanglatongbi. These checkpoints, operated by local miscreants, had been extorting vehicles by demanding unauthorised “taxes”.

The operation was launched after numerous complaints from residents and transporters, and it has been widely appreciated by local communities, particularly in the hill and valley districts. The check post had been set up during the ethnic violence in May 2023 and had been used to collect illegal taxes from vehicles traveling on the highway.

The operation began at 4 am, with a bulldozer demolishing the structure, and was completed successfully by 9 am.
