IMPHAL, Feb 28: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has extended the deadline for the surrender of looted and illegal weapons until 4 pm on March 6, following public appeals from residents in both the hill and valley areas. The official statement, issued on February 28, confirmed the extension, which comes after the initial seven-day deadline, set by Bhalla on February 20, expired on Thursday.

In the statement, the Governor acknowledged the requests from the public and emphasized that this extension would be the final opportunity for individuals to surrender their weapons without facing legal repercussions. “Upon expiry of the seven days deadline for voluntary surrender of such arms, there has been demand from both valley and hill areas to extend the period for surrender. I have considered the request and decided to extend the deadline up-to 4pm of 06 March 2025 for voluntary surrender of such arms,” the statement read.

Governor Bhalla further reiterated that those who comply within the extended period would not face punitive action. However, any person found in possession of illegal or looted arms after the given deadline will face legal action as per law. “This is the last opportunity for everyone concerned to contribute to peace, communal harmony, safeguarding the future of our youths, and security of our society,” he stated.
