SENAPATI, March 3: The Senapati-Phaibung Road Development Committee, along with 18 Village Chairman and Secretaries, held an emergency meeting today at the TNK Senapati Village Authority Hall to discuss the prolonged neglect of the Senapati-Phaibung (SP) Road project.
The main agenda of the meeting was to seek the intervention of the the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur regarding the Senapati-Phaibung (SP) Road, which was sanctioned under the Prime Minister’s Package in 2000 for some of the most remote villages. However, despite 23 years, the project has been neglected by the 25 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) and the Government of Manipur.
The meeting also resolved that the SP Road must be completed by the 25 BRTF and should not be handed over to the state government until it is officially inaugurated by the DoNER Ministry in the presence of the S.P. Road Committee, as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2002.
Furthermore, the committee members unanimously decided to once again urge the Government of Manipur to release the pending 10% state share for the project. They also demanded an immediate halt to the construction of a new road overlapping the existing SP Road, stating that such actions exploit innocent villagers.
